Work With Us
Who we are
We are a London-based startup, and we hire UK-based people for hybrid roles. We're building highly specific games, like unpoker rivals, which live at the intersection of free-to-play and affiliate marketing. These games are highly challenging optimisation problems - good enough to engage an audience on their own merits, effective enough to work as a funnel, efficient enough to work as a business. This blog post explores why we think games are a key component of the future of affiliate marketing.
Unrational Games is structured the way we think many companies will come to be: small, with a handful of highly skilled generalists at the centre and a great deal of scope and leverage per person. In practice, building agents to automate or augment our work is standard here. Everything from the game codebase to the marketing and accounting systems is built to be worked on by humans and agents together. The ethos, and current state, of the company is continually managed and updated by internal AI tools we have built. Our stack is predominantly TypeScript, and we build on Cloudflare's edge developer platform as we think it has exceptional primitives.
Who thrives here
The people who do well here are flexible. They can go deep in one thing and are useful across several others. You might know one domain cold, whether that is engineering, product, marketing, operations or something we would not have thought to list, but you have enough range beyond it that handing you an unfamiliar problem is an interesting opportunity. You most likely have already begun rebuilding your own way of working around AI, and you treat that as a skill that compounds rather than a novelty. Recently, you will have spent a significant amount of time testing and adopting new tools and ways of working. You will know both the power of AI tools and their rough edges.
You likely want more scope than you are currently given, and to see what you make reach people quickly. You want a real challenge, and the credit when you meet one.
Start a conversation
We do not publish a list of open roles, because the useful version of this is a conversation. Send a short email, two paragraphs, to support@unrationalgames.com: the first on your current role and experience, the second on the role you would build for yourself if you could.
